Dedication to the memory of our parents

Before Dad felt the call to go into the ministry, our parents were singers. Dad sang with the New York City Opera, and Mom with the Metropolitan Opera. Throughout our childhood, the house was filled with music and singing.

There was one song that Mom and Dad sang often to each other throughout their nearly fifty five years of marriage

In September 2001, after having suffered two strokes, Dad had to be moved to a nursing home. We brought Mom to visit him. Mom held his hand and sang "their song" to him.

Although unable to speak, Dad began singing along with Mom and the words came out clearly.

One month later in October, 2001, Mom had a sudden stroke and only had a few hours or days left.

We brought Dad to her side. Dad sat next to Mom's bed, reached for her hand and sang their song:

"Let Me Call You Sweetheart"

Let me call you Sweetheart I'm in love with you.

Let me hear you whisper that you love me too.

Keep the love-light glowing in your eyes so true.

Let me call you Sweetheart, I'm in love with you.

Mom & Dad,

If tears could build a stairway

And memories a lane,

I'd walk right up to heaven

And bring you back again.
